What Should I Be Feeding My Pet? A Veterinarian Answers with No Judgement

A veterinarian’s honest, no-pressure approach to food, treats, and supporting your pet’s health—naturally.

It started with a messy belly and a lot of worry.
Haley—my sweet senior pup—had been dealing with on-and-off stomach issues. Vomiting, diarrhea, appetite all over the place. Nothing about her food changed, so I was worried.
Eventually, we ran some tests and found something that made my stomach drop: sludge in her gallbladder—a precursor to what’s known as a mucocele. If you’ve heard of it, you know how serious that can be.
I started her on supportive medication and supplements to help her liver and gallbladder. But I didn’t stop there. I also completely reworked her diet—homemade, simple, clean, and nourishing.
And six months later?
Her gallbladder sludge was gone.
I’ve always believed food matters. But this made it undeniable.
It also reminded me how overwhelming it can be—even for a vet—to make those food decisions when you're worried about your pet. That’s exactly why I do what I do.
Why I Created Dr. Shannon Nash LLC 🩺🥕
As a veterinarian certified in food therapy (plus acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Tui-na), I help pet parents understand how to use nutrition and integrative care to support their pet’s health—whether they’re managing a chronic condition, dealing with picky eating, or just trying to feed better without the overwhelm.
I know how easy it is to fall down the Google rabbit hole.
I also know how confusing pet food marketing can be.
So I created a space where you can get honest, personalized, science-meets-compassion support—without judgment.

Why I Lead with Food First (But Never Judge)

Food isn’t magic—but it is powerful.
It can reduce inflammation, support digestion, improve energy, and help your pet feel better in ways you can actually see.
But I also know that nutrition is personal.
Not everyone is ready to switch to home-cooked meals. Not every pet thrives on the same diet. My approach is flexible, personalized, and informed by both science and what actually works in the real world.
I’ll never shame you for what you’re currently feeding. I’ll simply help you understand your options and support you in making the best choice for your pet—and your lifestyle.
